All longhaul flights arrive at the international terminal. From the adjacent domes tic terminals, there are many nonstop connections to all desti nations within Queensland and many cities in Australia. Both Brisbane Airport (15 km from the city) and Cairns Airport (5 km north of the city) are well located and within easy reach. Singapore Airlines flies daily from Copenhagen to Singapore and five times a week from Stockholm to Singapore. From there, several daily nonstop flights depart to Brisbane and one daily nonstop flight departs to Cairns. Flight duration: about 20 hours. singaporeair.com Best travel time: In the north of Queensland and on the Whitsunday Islands the climate is tropical. Early in the year it may rain more often here and in parts of the Outback. Please note that even in the rainy season it stays warm in these regions! The islands along the Southern Great Barrier Reef and the regions further south, including Brisbane, enjoy a subtropical clima te. If you don't mind warm tropical rain, you can visit Queensland all year round. We recommend April to November as the best travel time for the entirety of Queensland. Annual average temperatures for Cairns + Airlie Beach: 22 to 29 degrees Celsius, for Brisbane: 18 to 25 degrees Celsius. No matter which season you travel: it always gets light early (and dark early too). In December the days are longest, with sunrise around 4:50 and sunset around 18:45. In June the days are shortest: sunrise around 6:35 and sunset around 17:00 (applies to Brisbane). Camping & Camping Permits: There are wellequipped campsites all over Queensland. Camping is also permitted in national parks. There are no admission fees, but a camping permit is required if you want to stay directly in the park (cost: AUD 6.65 per person/night or AUD 3.65 for stu dents). Camping permits are available online: qpws.usedirect.com/qpws Currency: Australian Dollar (AUD). Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. 1 GBP = 1,87 AUD (Nov 2019) Electricity: An adapter with 2 V shaped, flat pins is required. It is called a type I plug. The voltage is 240 V, a current transformer is not needed. Entry: A visa is required to visit Australia. The (free) "eVisitor" (Subclass 651) can be applied for online at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/ getting-a-visa/visa-listing/evisitor-651. It is advisable to carry an international drivers license. It is easy to travel around Queens land, the infrastructure is excellent. Long distance travel is unavoidable in Australia. Brisbane and Cairns are more than 1,700 km apart. Remem ber, Australians drive on the left! Within cities the speed limit is between 50 and 60 km/h. On high ways it is either 100 or 110 km/h. Sun protection: Essential all year round! SPF 30+ is recommended. Time: CET + 8 hours. During the European winter the time difference is + 9 hours. Queensland has no daylightsaving time. Train Travel: The „Spirit of Queensland" connects Brisbane and Cairns five times a week (travel time: 25 hours). With the "Tilt Train" (Bris bane – Rockhampton), the "Spirit of the Outback" (Brisbane – Long reach), the "Inlander" (Townsville – Mt. Isa), and the "Westlander" (Brisbane – Charle ville), there are many possibilities for relaxed travel through Queens land by train. queenslandrailtravel.com.au WiFi: Many places offer free WiFi.
